America Online hopes to keep kids hooked with its new KOL service. Some highlights:

Need Some Homework Help?

Homework Help is a useful online idea.
Cool thing: Check out Brad the Robot, who has neat ideas about computers and technology.
Not so cool thing: Don't count on "Ask a Teacher." It may just leave you frustrated with questions.

Surf's Up
Ocean makes a fine desktop for kids in Washington, since most of us live hours from the beach.
Cool thing: When you check out Ocean, remember that almost 90 percent of the earth is covered with ocean and other bodies of water.
Not so cool thing: Ocean doesn't measure up to a fun day in the waves at a real beach.

Welcome to the Jungle
Jungle is one of several KOL theme desktops.
Cool thing: Experience the compass in the Jungle, for moving up, down and around.
Not so cool thing: The Jungle desktop may seem boring if you are really into style or technology.

Internet Playground
Hangout is offers kids-only chats, message boards, polls and lots more interactive features. AOL patrols this area closely to make sure it's only kids who are hanging out there.
