In a Nutshell

A pricey, well-preserved Victorian-era shore town.

What's There?

Victorian mansions ... one-of-a-kind shops on Third Avenue ... totally non-commercial boardwalk ... strolling around Spring Lake ... trout fishing.

Lodging

Bed-and-breakfast inns are plentiful; rates begin at $125 a night. Three-night minimum on weekends. Houses rentals are available, but for a minimum of one month. Prices range from $11,000 to $25,000 monthly.

Bargains

The Warren Hotel has a midweek special: $395 for a three-night, four-day stay, double occupancy.

The Drive

206 miles, 4 ½ hours

Quirk

You can't eat on the beach because town leaders are afraid you'll get it dirty.
