PROBLEM: Buying discount theater seats at the two TKTS booths in New York City is a time-consuming hassle, and often doesn’t produce tickets to the shows you really want to see.
SOLUTION: “Forget the TKTS booth altogether,” advises Ann Cochran of Bethesda. “The only half-price theater tickets you usually get there—after your long wait in line—are for the most expensive orchestra seats. Save time and money by buying your own ‘discounted’ seats—the moderate or inexpensive seats in smaller theaters. My son and I saw ‘Side Man’ in August for $18 a ticket—it would have cost $35 a ticket at the TKTS booth. Vacation time is too precious to waste in line!”
