PROBLEM: Children asking for money for souvenirs and toys on extended trips.
SOLUTION: “Three months prior to the trip, start a ‘matching funds jar,’‚” advises Joan McNoldy of Manassas. “Whatever money they put in even 5 cents—you match. Whatever is in the jar by the time the trip starts is theirs to spend, but no more. This teaches budgeting, saving and careful spending and peace and harmony, since no begging for additional money is allowed. This even worked at Disney World!”
