Tip 136: Iron Your Map!

PROBLEM: That country road you've been searching hours for turns out to be a crease in your map.
SOLUTION: Silver Spring's Eleanor K. Henry says all it takes is a little pre-trip planning to iron out that dilemma. "Because my husband and I have spent weeks at a time in Europe on house exchanges, our maps soon wear out on the folds," she writes. "Now I purchase a length of iron-on interfacing at a fabric shop and iron it on the back of the map, which then lasts the duration of our stay." Just remember to buy a pair of the maps, so that you'll have the flip side containing the index.
