PROBLEM: You'd like to make a positive contribution to the people you meet in a developing nation.
SOLUTION: Take quality used clothing with you and share it, says Mare Knoblauch of Burke, an idea that strikes us as both sensible and thoughtful. "When my husband and I travel to a less-rich country, we always take an extra suitcase filled with clothing, and then each day leave a small pile under the wastebasket," she writes. "The hotel maids are usually different each day, so our castoffs are put to good use. I usually take small toys as well to add to the pot."
