PROBLEM: Portable alarms for hotel rooms are expensive, require batteries that run down, and take up precious space in your carry-on.
SOLUTION: Go the quieter, cheaper route and pack a rubber triangular doorstop. “This little item, usually used to keep a door from closing, is just as effective at keeping someone from opening the door from the outside,” notes Norma Woodward of Fredericksburg. “And you won’t inadvertently set off a noisy alarm in the middle of the night.” A sound idea, for sure.
