Tip 86: BYO Pillowcase

"Who wants bugs crawling near their head?" asks tipster Michele Graber of
Chevy Chase, getting our attention straight off. "Not me! I've seen too many
investigative reports of the lack of cleanliness of hotel rooms, especially
beds. And while it would be difficult to lug my bed with me on overnight
travel, I have found a compromise solution that eases my creature fears. I
pack my pillowcase. It's small, light and portable. At the hotel, I put my
pillowcase on the hotel pillow. When I sleep, I am content knowing that some
dirty person didn't previously slobber on the pillow or that mites aren't
having a party beneath my head!"
Well. After reading Graber's tip, we're not sure we can ever fully relax
in a hotel bed again. But at least now we have a weapon of sorts. And a
colleague points out that there's a bonus to bringing your own pillowcase it can double as a laundry bag at the end of your trip. For sharing her tip, Graber wins a snowy white Washington Post Travel section T-shirt. Want a shirt of your own? Debug the fine print below.
