Tip 89: Look Ma, No Bags

  Travel Tips
"Do you think you can't travel because of physical impairment or age, and you can't carry your own luggage?" asks tipster Betty J. Borland of Washington. "Think again! Send it UPS. They will pick your luggage up at your home. You have to measure the length and width and weigh it, and UPS charges accordingly."

You don't have to be a senior citizen to see the appeal of this one: Anyone who doesn't want the hassle of, well, lugging luggage will appreciate the convenience of sending it ahead. And, says UPS, it's not necessary to box your suitcase – just slap on an address label. The company recommends placing clear packaging tape on the case, putting the label on that, then placing another layer of clear tape on top. To get an idea of the shipping cost, you can plug your bag's dimensions into the calculator at the UPS Web site, www.ups.com.

For sharing her clever idea, Borland wins an "I'm a Great Tipper!" T-shirt. Got a good tip of your own? Pick up on the fine print below.
