Tip 92: Blow Dryers
From Many Lands

  Travel Tips
Like to blow dry your hair, even on vacation? Think you can just travel with an electrical adapter so you'll be able to use your own trusty hairdryer abroad? Good luck. Even with the right adapter, chances are you'll still blow a fuse when you turn the appliance on. And even if you can get the thing to run, it'll probably be at such a low speed that you might as well let your hair air dry.

But Jill Poznick of Washington has a solution: "When visiting a country with different electrical currents, buy a hairdryer in a local store and take it home with you. Typically, many countries in a region use the same wattage, so the hairdryer can be used in more than one place and on more than one trip. A fellow international traveler has one dryer that she takes to Europe and another that she bought in Africa. The dryers aren't expensive, and they sure beat trying to convert an American dryer into a foreign electric current. That European hairdryer saved me from some very bad hair days in Turkey this past summer!"
