Does Iran have weapons of mass destruction?
Iran is seeking nuclear and biological weapons, according to independent analysts. In 2000 the Pentagon predicted that Iran could produce nuclear weapons by 2005. The CIA thinks it could be sooner. Iran says that its nuclear facilities, which are open to international inspectors, are for peaceful purposes only. Iran also has a chemical weapons arsenal which it developed after its troops suffered a poison gas attack from Saddam Hussein's Iraqi armed forces in the 1980s.
