Amid the growing uproar over the separation of migrant families at the border, the president urged GOP members of Congress in a closed-door meeting to fix the nation’s immigration system, but he provided anxious Republicans with no clear path forward two days ahead of votes on competing GOP bills.
What once was seen as an option too toxic and extreme has been embraced by an administration willing to go deep into the government’s immigration enforcement arsenal — even at the risk of triggering a political and humanitarian crisis.
The falsehoods have multiplied in recent days as Trump seeks to create an alternate reality around immigration and other issues.
