The country’s state minister for defense told parliament that initial investigations indicate the deadly bombings at churches and hotels were in response to mosque shootings in New Zealand that left 50 Muslims dead. He also acknowledged there were security lapses that allowed the attacks to occur.
Officials are investigating National Thowheed Jamaath — a local group that a U.S. official said has ties to the Islamic State — in the suicide bombings of churches and hotels.
The aftermath of the special counsel’s report, as well as Congress’s inability to help serve as a check on President Trump, could create a precedent in which it remains unclear where to draw lines on presidential behavior.
Democratic leaders said House panels would continue their inquiries into President Trump, according to three officials on a conference call.
