Vice-Presidential Debate

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence projected a steadier temperament than his running mate, Donald Trump, and largely ducked Sen. Tim Kaine’s demands to answer for Trump’s incendiary actions and statements. But Pence took positions in debating the Virginia senator that conflicted with those put forth by his fellow Republican.

President Rodrigo Duterte swept to power in June promising war, and he has delivered. Since then, more than 3,300 people are dead, and the victims include suspected drug dealers and users, as well as people misidentified as such. Francisco Santiago is a rare and dangerous thing in the state-led killing rampage: a witness.
Joshua Wong, the face of 2014's pro-democracy protests, has been detained trying to enter Thailand, where he was to give a speech about his campaign for democracy in Hong Kong. His detention raises fresh questions about Beijing’s ability to exert control far beyond its borders.

Yes, there are more men than women in physics, but that doesn’t mean there are not well-deserving women waiting in the wings. And it’s about time they were honored.
