Cans of bug spray explode, injure Fairfax man

An explosion was accidentally set off when an electrical spark ignited about a dozen aerosol insect repellant containers, according to fire officials.

Burglars hit Falls Church, Arlington

A series of recent burglaries in Falls Church and Arlington has prompted police to urge homeowners to lock their doors.

Cyclist dies in Fairfax crash

An 82-year-old Falls Church area man died Thursday of injuries he received when he was hit by a truck while riding his bike in the Seven Corners area of Fairfax County last month. Police said Minh Van, of the 3300 block of Nevius Street, was trying to cross Willston Drive near Route 50 on November 24. A man driving a 2003 Dodge pickup truck, turning from Willston Drive on to Route 50, struck Van. Van was hospitalized until his death, police said. Investigators do not believe speed or alcohol were involved, and no charges have been filed.

Va. man dies after being struck by car

A Falls Church area man died Monday night of injuries he suffered when he was hit by a car as he walked near Gallows Road on Saturday night, Fairfax County police said Tuesday. Police said Glenn Melton, 76, of the 3300 block of Woodburn Village Drive was trying to cross Woodburn Road near Gallows Road in the Falls Church area shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday. Melton was struck by a 1997 Ford Escort heading east on Woodburn Road, police said. Police said Melton was not in a crosswalk.
