iPad 2 review: the week-later edition

Cheaper, WiFi-only Xoom coming. It won’t help, but here’s what could.

Starting March 27, you won’t have to pay as much to get Motorola’s Xoom tablet, as long as you don’t need 3G wireless access: a $599, WiFi-only model will arrive at Amazon.com, Best Buy, Costco, RadioShack, some Sam’s Club s, Staples and Walmart.

Motorola’s Xoom tablet is no iPad — much less an iPad 2

Apple’s iPad 2 arrives in stores tomorrow. Which means that Motorola’s Xoom tablet already faced tough odds when it made its own retail debut late last month. But after spending a week and change with this thing, I see a bigger problem: It has trouble holding its own against the current iPad.

Report: Suppliers say Apple to ship 6.5 million iPads in first quarter of 2011
