Democrat Charles E. Schumer has beaten Wendy Long, a Republican, in the race for the New York Senate seat currently held by Schumer.

All of New York's House seats have been decided. Republicans have held nine seats, while Democrats have held 18. Every House seat is up for election every two years.

New York voted for Hillary Clinton, the Democratic former secretary of state, in Tuesday’s presidential election.

Earlier versions of this story stated that New York voted for Donald Trump in Tuesday's election. The state voted Hillary Clinton.
