Tommy Hallock

Oakton / Sr.

A second-team All-Met last winter, Hallock had a breakout senior season. He went undefeated in all individual races and dominated his freestyle sprint events. Hallock smashed the Virginia state record in the 100-yard freestyle (44.24 seconds) at the 6A championships, where he also picked up the 50 free title (20.28) for his first two individual state trophies -- both in automatic all-American times -- before anchoring the Cougars to a come-from-behind victory in the 200 free relay. He will swim for Virginia Tech.

Sam Tarter

Georgetown Prep / Sr.

Princeton recruit was runner-up in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:39.01) and 200 IM (1:53.31), and helped Georgetown Prep win the 400 free relay at Metros.

Lane Stone

West Springfield / Sr.

Repeat All-Met and Virginia Tech signee swam the area's fastest 500-yard freestyle with an all-time Virginia record of 4:24.52. Finished second at the Virginia 6A championships in the 200 free.

Sterling Smith

DeMatha / Sr.

Placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke at WMPSSDL championship finals in 54.63 seconds, after setting the meet record and area-leading time in prelims (54.42).

Jonathan Pollock

Jefferson / Jr.

Picked up 200-yard freestyle title (1:38.90) and set the Virginia 5A record in the 100 free (45.21 seconds), the second-fastest time in the area, at the Virginia 5A championships.

Sam Pomajevich

Stonewall Jackson / Sr.

Texas-bound senior had area-best times from the Virginia 6A championships in the 200-yard freestyle (1:37.47) and 100 fly (48.23) -- beating his own Virginia 6A record.

Matthew Hirschberger

Georgetown Prep / Sr.

Won the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.31) and 500 free (4:27.85) in automatic all-American times at Metros. Will swim for Stanford.

Christian Ginieczki

Herndon / Sr.

Auburn recruit was a Virginia 6A runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke (49.40 seconds) and 100 fly (48.99) -- both automatic all-American times.

Will Cumberland

Patriot / Sr.

Notre Dame commit became Virginia 6A champion in the 100-yard backstroke (48.94 seconds) and finished second in the 200 IM (1:48.87), while also leading the Patriots to a victory in the 200 medley relay.

Sean Conway

Loudoun Valley / So.

The 6-foot-4 sophomore set Virginia 4A records in the 500-yard freestyle (4:32.4) and 200 IM (1:48.70), the latter an area-leading time.

Conor Casey

W.T. Woodson / Jr.

Won the boys' one-meter diving title at the Virginia 6A championships with an area-best 576.85 points. Was runner-up in the 6A North region meet.

Coach of the Year Lisa Bussian


Under Bussian's leadership, the Pioneers have emerged as one of the top boys' programs in the area, only losing one dual meet in six years. This year they punctuated their successful season with the school's first Virginia 6A team title. Bussian has guided the Patriot swimming and diving teams since the school opened in 2011.
