The Hornets opened the game with a five-yard touchdown run by Tinwin Ricks, bringing the score to 7-0.
In the second quarter, the Patriots' Tanner Wall tied the game with a 21-yard touchdown run. Yorktown took the lead from Herndon with a 25-yard touchdown reception by Wall from quarterback Grant Wilson. The Patriots scored again on Davis Patterson's 42-yard touchdown reception from quarterback William Porter.
Both teams went scoreless in the third quarter.
Ahead 21-7 at the start of the fourth quarter, Yorktown scored the game's final points on a five-yard touchdown run by Adrian Alvarez.
Wilson led the Patriots with 72 passing yards, completing six of 11 attempts. He had one touchdown. Alvarez led the Patriots with 82 rushing yards and one touchdown on seven carries. Yorktown's top receiver was Wall, who had four catches for 73 yards and one touchdown.
Yorktown (7-1, 3-0) will host South Lakes High School (7-1, 3-0) on Oct. 27. Herndon (3-5, 0-0) will host Langley High School (1-7, 1-2) on Oct. 27.
