In the second quarter, the Bulldogs added to their lead on Eugene Asante's 38-yard touchdown run. South County cut into Westfield's lead with a 77-yard touchdown reception off a pass from quarterback Michael Tull to Dillon Spalding.
South County trailed Westfield 14-7 heading into the second half. Westfield scored again on Taylor Morin's 40-yard touchdown reception off a pass from quarterback Noah Kim. South County cut into the Bulldogs' lead with a seven-yard touchdown run by Spalding.
South County was behind Westfield 21-14 heading into the fourth quarter. South County's Spalding tied the score with a two-yard touchdown run.
The game entered overtime with the score tied 21-21. Spalding helped South County take the lead with a nine-yard touchdown reception. Westfield took the lead from South County with Kim's one-yard touchdown run. The game ended with Westfield defeating South County, 28-27.
Kim led the Bulldogs with 98 passing yards, completing nine of 15 attempts. He had one touchdown. Asante led Westfield with 99 rushing yards and one touchdown on 19 carries. Westfield's top receiver was Morin, who had five catches for 60 yards and one touchdown.
The Stallions' top passer was Tull, who completed 13 of 21 passes for 207 yards and one touchdown. South County's top rusher was Tull, who had nine carries for 43 yards. The Stallions' top receiver was Spalding, who had seven catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns.
Westfield will play Stonewall Jackson High School (0-2, 0-0) on Sept. 15. South County will play Centreville High School (1-1, 0-0) on Sept. 8.
