QI am going on vacation to San Francisco this summer and the trip will involve a lot of walking. However, I really don't want to wear sneakers with every outfit. Are

there any cute sandals or other summer shoes out there that are comfortable enough to take, or am I just fantasizing?

AFor the streets of San Francisco, you have lots of great options (as opposed to if you were going camping, in which case I'd just

recommend getting a pair of hiking boots). A personal favorite:

an adorable metallic thong by

Michael Kors ($150) -- it's part Birkenstock, part disco, and its ergonomic sole makes it very comfortable. Then, I don't know how you feel about the real thing --

Birkenstocks, that is -- but they're heaven for walking and considered far more stylish than they used

to be. You could go with the two-strap Arizona Birki ($100) or kick it up with the Gizeh, above ($75). There's also the company's Curacao style ($90), a slip-on souped up with gold nylon straps. Check out Rieker's anti-stress shoes, too -- they tend to look better on actual Europeans, but their padded footbeds are designed for walking. For something a bit more substantial, and pricier, Prada Sport makes a leather ballet flat ($295) that combines the support of a sneaker with the look of a dressier shoe.
