Ready to grill your own pig but don't know where to start? Here are some resources to get you going.

Where to find a whole pig

Make arrangements as early as possible.

Chuck's Butcher Shop. 6942 Indian Head Hwy., Bryans Road. 301-283- 0743 or 301-375-8371. The price per pound varies by size as well as whether or not you buy it cooked. A 35 pounder runs about $120 raw and $200 oven roasted.

Papa Weaver's Pork. 346 Caves Ford Lane, Orange, Va. 540-672-1552. www.papaweaver.com. Pigs range from about 40 to 250 pounds and sell at market price, which is about $1 per pound. You can also rent a drum grill, which can be delivered for about an additional $150.

Smith Meadows. 568 Smithfield Lane, Berryville, Va. 877-955-4389. www.smithmeadows.com. This free-range farm expects to have only 200 to 250 pounders for the next couple of months. The price is $4.99 per pound, based on the amount of meat (a 200 pounder yields 100 pounds).

Places to rent a spit

A Plus Rental Center. 7701 Fullerton Rd., Springfield. 703-451-6060. A charcoal grill with a rotisserie motor is $94.

Kay-Lyns Wedding and Party Rentals. Fairground Village Shopping Center, 330-140 Village Rd., Westminster, Md. 410-848-1706. A pig roaster with propane goes for $100, and a charcoal grill with rotisserie is $50.

Brooke Rental Center. Three locations in Arlington, Leesburg and Vienna. www.brookerental.com. A standard electric rotisserie for a pig that's up to 100 pounds is $75. The Leesburg and Vienna locations also have a larger, towable grill (for up to 300 pounds) for $95.

These establishments can cook up a pig beforehand or in your own backyard. Prices vary based on size and travel time.

Ed Baker's Custom Pig Roast. 17012 Sabillasville Rd., Sabillasville, Md. 301-271-7618. Prices start at $3 per person or $6.50 with two sides. Includes a homemade sweet and sour sauce.

Rocklands. 25 S. Quaker Lane, Alexandria. 703-778-8000. www.rocklands.com. The barbecue chain offers 25- to 120-pound smoked pigs for $4.99 per pound.
