About 36,000 Yamaha motorcycles and 500,000 Zenith color television sets are among the latest products to be recalled.
Yamaha Motor Corp. said yesterday it is recalling four models of its XS750 cycle because of a defect that could cause the rear wheel to lock.
The company notified owners this week that a defective stopper bolt may permit the gear-shift drum to move laterally and lock the wheel, which would result in a crash.
The company will install a new lock tab free of charge on vehicles affected, a spokesman said.
Three accidents and one injury have been reported to the company as a result of this defect he said.
Zenith Radio Corp. has agreed to replace, free of charge, a potentially faulty electronic part in more than 500,000 color television sets manufactured in 1974 and 1975, the New York State Attorney General's office said yesterday.
The part involved is a "fouc-lead capacitor," the company said. Its failure can lead to damage of the picture tube and other parts.
Under the agreement announced yesterday, Zenith is offering preventive maintenance of sets involved which have yet to need service, cash refunds to consumers who have had their sets repaired already and payment of $5,000 to New York state for costs involved in working out the settlement, according to the attorney general's office.
The TVs affected have diagonal screen sizes of 17-, 19 , 23- and 25 inches. About 50 model numbers are involved.
