John B. Bernhardt was elected president of the Virginia Bankers Association last month. He is executive vice president of Virginia National Bank and Virginia National Bankshares Inc. of Norfolk.

A native Virginian, Bernhardt graduated from the University of Virginia and earned his LL.B from the university's School of Law in 1957. The same year he began his banking career with the Peoples National Bank of Charlottesville, which merged in 1963 with the National Commerce Bank of Norfolk to form Virginia National Bank.

In addition, C. Coleman McGehee, chairman of First & Merchants Corp., was named first vice president, and Milton L. Drewer Jr. was elected second vice president of the association.

Joanne M. Varley and Albert A. Roberts Jr. have been appointed assistant secretaries of Baltimore Federal Savings and Loan Association.

Paul De Konig has been named general manager of the National Press Club. De Konig, a native of Holland, was formerly manager of the Mercantile Club in Baltimore.

Robert L. Morris has been named assistant vice president of New York Life Insurance Co.'s Washington Real Estate and Mortgage Loan office.

Louis L. Woodring was elected executive vice president of Randall Associates Inc.

Richard P. Mueller, president of Mueller Associates, Inc., has been elected president of the Baltimore Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers for 1979-80.

Frederick W. Woltman was elected vice president of the Equitable Trust Co.'s department of investments services.

Houston Natural Gas Corp. has opened a new Washington office and named Michael T. Kelley assistant to the chiarman for government affairs.

Merchants Transfer Co. of Virginia announced the appointments of Henry Marraffa Jr. as vice president in charge of operations and James Spinnler as operations manager/dispatcher.

Richard H. Vent has been promoted to vice president-international at Marriott Corp.

Country Legend Inc. of Virginia announced the appointment of Robert J. Burke as executive vice president.

Sheila Burke Patton has been promoted to vice president of Hill and Knowlton Inc. of Washington.

Hager, Sharp Associates has changed its name to Hager, Sharp & Abramson Inc. to include Patty Abramson, who joined Hager, Sharp last January. Abramson directs the firm's media promotion, and conference management activities.

Harold L. Brownman has been named the next president of Lockheed Electronics Co. Inc.

Robert A. Peterson of Falls Church has been named midatlantic district sales manager for Mohawk Data Sciences Corp.

Stone & Webster Engineering announced the elections of Frank W. Ries and Vytautas A. Suziedelis as executive vice presidents of the firm. James T. Ramey was elected a director and Angelo Giambusso a vice president.

Martin Marietta announced the election of David C. Dressler as a corporate vice president and his appointment as president of its specialty chemicals company.

Robert O. Harris has been selected for a one-year term as chairman of the National Mediation Board.

William T. Ferazzoli Jr. has been named district manager for the Glenmore Distilleries Co. of Louisville, Ky.

Dennis J. Galanis has been named vice president and director of commercial sales for Holland & Lyons Associates, Inc.
