Three new directors have been elected to the board of Jefferson Federal Savings and Loan to succeed retiring board members J. Hawley Smith, E. Milburn Colvin Jr. and Harry L. Merrick. The new members are Seymour Alpert, vice president for development of the George Washington University as well as professor of anesthsiology; Thomas E. Boyce, a partner in the accounting firm of Matthews, Carter, and Boyce; and John Paul McGowan, vice president of John Carl Warnke & Associates, architects and planners.
In addition to the election of the new board members, several changes were made in the top management at Jefferson. Lucian H. vAndoren, formerly senior vice president, was elected president and chief executive officer. Henry E. Johnson became executive vice president. Also promoted were Edgar F. Myers, Jack R. Spangenburg, Phoebe S. Pitts, and Donna L. Sheets.
James W. Rouse, founder and chairman of The Rouse Co., has been elected to the board of directors of The Ryland Group Inc.
William H. Kolberg has been appointed president and chief executive officer of the National Alliance of Business.
Suzanne Lowery has joined HJK&A as an account executive in the public relations division.
John M. Hughes has been appointed director of corporate business operations for ManTech International Corp.
Phyllis Denham has been elected vice president of Weaver Associates Inc. She will continue to be in charge of client relations and marketing in the firm's Washington office.
Trewitt D. Harding has been appointed vice president/sales in the Alexandria office of Johnston, Lemon & Co. Inc.Appointed to assistant vice president in various suburban offices were John L. Ahbe Jr., Jannet S. Carpien, Stephan Q. Cassday, Alfred S. Dewey Jr., Richard H. Huber and Bill G. Smith.
