Seaboard Coast Line Industries Inc. has named A. Paul Funkhouser chief executive officer of its Family Line System, which includes Seaboard Coast Line and Louisville and Nashville railroads and their affiliates, the Clinchfield and Georgia railroads. All the lines are either owned or leased by Seaboard Coast Line Industries, based in Jacksonville, Fla., and Richmond.

Funkhouser will continue in his positions as president of SCL Industries, president of SCL Railroad and vice chairman of the L & N Railroad. Prive F. Osborn stays on as chairman and chief executive officer of SCL Industries and chairman of the two railroads.

Funkhouser, a native of Roanoke, started his career in railroads with the Norfolk and Western Railway in 1952. He later held the following positions with the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Penn Central Railroad: vice president-coal traffic; vice president-public affairs; senior vice president-passenger service and senior vice president-sales and marketing.

He joined SCL Industries in 1975 as senior vice president and soon after was named executive vice president-traffic.

Last week Seaboard Coast Line Industries reported first-quarter earnings of $37 million, an 85 percent increase over the $20 million registered during the first quarter of 1979. At the company's annual meeting chairman Osborn was hopeful of the upcoming Interstate Commerce Commission decision on the proposed merger of Seaboard Coast Line Industries and the Chessie System. p
