Journal Newspapers Inc. appointed Ray Burdick editor of The Prince George's Journal.

Burdick was most recently editor of the Montgomery County Sentinel. From 1967 to Jan. 1980 he was editor of The Prince George's Sentinel. Prior to that he was a reporter for the Montgomery County Sentinel and a reporter and night editor for the Omaha World Herald. Sunny Mays Schust was named news editor of the P.G. Journal. She has served eight months at the Upper Marlboro bureau of the Journal.

Drew Babb has been named creative director for the corporate communications division of J. Walter Thompson/Washington. Babb was previously senior vice president and creative director at Weitzman, Dym and Associates. Peter Gridley was named management supervisor/director of client services for J. Walter Thompson here and Debra Fisher has been promoted to media supervisor for the Washington office of J. Walter Thompson, U.S.A. Iinc. Terry Coveny has been named a senior vice president of Thompson.

Peter B. Fitzpatrick has been appointed assistant counsel for Newsweek Inc., a Washington Post Co. unit. He was most recently an associate attorney with the Wall Street firm of Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts.

Donald J. Cole has been promoted to vice president and director of media research at the Baltimore office of W.B. Doner and Co.

Howard Mappen has joined Comsat General TeleSystems Inc. as vice president of manufacturing operations.

Albert J. Barr has joined Henry J. Kaufman & Associates as vice president and accounting supervisor. He comes to the advertising firm from the Glass Packaging Institute.
