Christopher Burns, vice president for planning of The Washington Post Co., has been named associate publisher of The Minneapolis Star and Minneapolis Tribune. Burns will be responsible for the advertising, promotion, research and planning departments.
Burns joined the Post in 1978. He established a new planning function that set policies and systems for the Post Co.'s 15 profit centers. Prior to that he was a senior consultant for Arthur D. Little Inc., directing the firm's research and consulting activities in publishing, information technology and office information systems.
Steven B. Hellem has joined E. Bruce Harrison Co. as vice president. The firm provides communications management services.
The Army Times Publishing Co. has appointed managing editors for two of its magazines. James Barry Robinson was named managing editor of The Times Magazine, a montly insert to the Army Times, Navy Times and Air Force Times. Donna J. Leonard T. Giarraputo, former executive vice president of Post-Newsweek Stations, has joined Group W Productions as vice president for sales. While with Post-Newsweek, Giarraputo had both station bottom-line and syndication responsibilities. He also directed the establishment of the company's station representative firm, Top Market Television. He was vice president, director of sales for Post-Newsweek from 1970 to 1972 before becoming executive vice president.
