Work is scheduled to begin this month on a marina retail-office complex bordering Spa Creek in the redeveloping Eastport section of Annapolis.

The project, Annapolis City Marina, will be constructed near existing boating facilities. Retail shops are planned for the first floor and part of the second. Offices will occupy the third floor and storage areas the fourth.

The complex will be 75,000 square feet. Windows will be operational and there will be parking for 350 cars.

MacKenzie & Associates Inc. of Baltimore is the corporate developer of the complex, which will be constructed of steel and concrete, with a wood-siding exterior and windows facing the water. Dennis Dugan of Baltimore designed the project.

A spokesman for the developer said construction financing has been arranged with Equitable Trust Bank in Baltimore and permanent financing will be supplied by Aetna Insurance Co.

Jordan Management Co. in Eastport is handling leasing and management for the two-acre project, located near the Spa Creek bridge and the Tecumseh condominium apartments. The area has a view of downtown Annapolis and the U.S. Naval Academy.

Years ago, boatyards were located along this part of Spa Creek, an area now occupied by apartments, a restaurant and the Yacht Haven business complex.
