People get the idea that most of the items we use in everyday life were invented within the past few hundred years. But at least 45 of the objects we use today were invented more than 2,000 years ago.

The following list gives these inventions and the approximate year they first appeared. Fuzzy history prevents us from knowing all the inventors' names or the places where the inventions were made, so we won't try to list those.

It's known, for example, that bellows were suggested in 2300 B.C. at Tuyer smelting furnaces found at Ur of the Chaldees, which one can't find on most present-day maps.
