Quality Inns International of Silver Spring has announced a plan to share reservation and marketing services with Crest Hotels, a 112-unit European lodging chain.
Quality Inns will accept reservations for rooms in Crest's hotels in Europe, and Crest will make arrangements with Quality Inns for travelers visiting the United States.
The two chains expect to exchange 200,000 room-nights of accomodations during the first year of the joint venture, said Robert Hazard Jr., president of Quality Inns.
Projections are that the exchange will be evenly balanced, Hazard said, noting that this year for the first time there are more European tourists visiting America than Americans going to Europe.
He said a new electronic global reservation system will be set up, and in the second phase of the venture Crest and Quality Inns hotels will install video display terminals linked by satellite to a computer for a worldwide reservation system.
Quality Inns in the United States will add small Crest signs and be identified in Europe as Crest-Quality Hotels, while Quality will market the European hotels here as Quality-Crest.
crest operates 112 hotels with 13,500 rooms in Great Britain, Holland, Germany; Belgium and italy; the company is a subsidiary of Bass Ltd., the British brewery. Quality Inns has 42,000 rooms in 368 units and is a subsidiary of Manor Care Inc.
