Raymond E. Mahaffey, president of the Record Publishing Co. in Silver Spring, was recently elected president of the Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association. Mahaffey also serves as chairman of the board of trustees of Holy Cross Hospital and as a member of the boards of the Columbia Systems Corp. of Bethesda and the Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce.
The association also announced the elections of George O'Connell, of The Baltimore Daily Record, as president-elect; Tom Bradlee, of Atlantic Publishing Co. in Accomac, Va., as vice president; Tom Mills, of The Frederick News-Post, as secretary, and John Worthington IV, of The Bel Air Aegis, as treasurer.
Elected to one-year terms on the press association's board of directors were Greg Romain, of The Elkton Cecil Whig; Margaret Lotito, of The LaPlata Times Crescent, and Brian Donnelly, of The Wilmington News-Journal.
Roger Kranz, founder and publisher of The Washington Journalism Review, has become manager of information services for Group W Satellite Communications, a division of Westinghouse Broadcasting Co. He will be responsible for all press and public information relating to the Satellite News Channels, a joint venture between Group W Satellite Communications and ABC Video Enterprises Inc. Satellite News Channels is an all-news, 24-hour-a-day cable service.
Tom Nagle Jr. has joined the Washington offices of J. Walter Thompson as an account planner. He was formerly with the joint recruiting advertising program at the Department of Defense.
Ann McClenahan and Jan Malin have been named vice presidents of Earle Palmer Brown and Associates. McClenahan has had previous account experience at The Washington Post, the Hecht Co. and Hechinger's. Malin was formerly advertising production chief for the International Medical News Group of Rockville.
In a related development, Al Shapiro has been named senior art director for Earle Palmer Brown. He was previously associate creative director with Weitzman, Dym & Associates.
Elise Stein and Ted Ward have been named account executives at Kal, Merrick & Salan Advertising.
Diane Cary has been named marketing coordinator for Robert H. Kruhm & Associates. She has also worked for Rossmoor Corp., Equitable Life, Princeton Applied Research Corp. and Hittman Corp.
George W. Parr III has joined Poretz & Jaffe Inc. as an account supervisor. He was formerly an account executive for media relations in the Washington offices of Hill & Knowlton.
