Susan B. King, former chairman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, has been named director of consumer affairs for Corning Consumer Products.

Romano Gabriele has been appointed president and chief executive officer of the Olivetti Corp. He has been president and chief executive officer of the company's Canadian subsidiary. In addition, Mario Becchi was named to the newly-created position of senior vice president of marketing and sales.

VVKR Inc., an architecture, engineering and planning firm with offices in Alexandria, announced recently that Ved P. Bansal has been promoted to managing vice president of mechanical and electrical engineering. Robert A. Padillo and Ronald E. Cashion were named vice presidents of the company.

Nicholas L. Ruggieri has become manager of Washington affairs for the corporate relations department of Johnson & Johnson. He was previously assistant general counsel for the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association.

Stephen W. McNierney has been elected senior vice president of business development at Black & Decker Manufacturing Co. He was previously vice president of business analysis and human resources. Also at Black & Decker, Richard H. Campbell has been appointed vice president of new business/ventures.

James V. Jolliff has become vice president for research and development at Systems Engineering Associates International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SEACOR. Jolliff will also serve as manager of the firm's new office in Annapolis.

George F. Ellis Jr. has been elected vice president of government operations for McDermott Inc. He was previously director of that division.

Dave Lewis has been promoted to manager of the electrostatic painting division of Pittas Construction.

Allen H. Gray has been named manager of public relations for the U.S. marketing and refining unit of Mobil Oil Corp. in Fairfax. He succeeds Raymond K. Vaughan, who has been promoted to manager of public affairs field services for the company's exploration and producing division.

Richard E. Hurney has been promoted to vice president of the new Silver Spring office of Bengtson, DeBell, Elkin & Titus, an engineering consulting, surveying and planning firm.
