A New Jersey-based international engineering corporation, Scientific Management Associates Inc., has been acquired by two Washington businessmen, George W. Glatis and Louis T. Donatelli, who have moved the company's headquarters to Washington.
Glatis was formerly chairman of the board of Wheeler Industries Inc., an engineering firm, and Donatelli is president of the real estate investment firm of Donatelli & Klien.
Glatis said Scientific Management Associates, which was founded in 1964 and provides naval engineering and marine system design services to foreign governments and industries, has been reorganized. "The acquisition and move of our headquarters to the Washington area are the first steps in our projected five-year expansion program for SMA," Glatis said.
SMA currently has offices in Washington, Arlington, Riverdale, Md.,, in a New Jersey suburb of Philadelphia and a subsidiary in Australia.
Glatis said he sees potential growth in the naval engineering industry and that SMA may become a "base to acquire other corporations."
Glatis has become president and chief executive officer of the firm. Donatelli has been elected chairman of the board and vice president of corporate development. Other officers, who previously were associated with the firm, include Thomas L. Bowe, senior vice president for international operations, with responsibility for the corporation's activities in Australia; Richard C. Fay, vice president for engineering; William S. Hare, vice president for New Jersey operations, and Thomas J. Graham, vice president for Washington operations.
