Tenly Enterprises Inc., the Rockville-based parent company of Rustler Steak Houses and Curly's Garage restaurants, has named Dave Veldheer to the new post of director of employment and training. He was formerly a regional training manager in Rustler's Alexandria office.
Food System Associates Inc., a Washington food systems management consultant, has hired Carol L. James as a specialist in public relations. She was formerly manager of the Cooperative League Fund and director of its communications programs.
Marriott Corp. has appointed Thomas O. Nowlin, formerly vice president for partnerships of the firm's Theme Park division, to the post of director of advertising and field marketing for Marriott Hotels and Resorts. Before joining Marriott, Nowlin was marketing director at the Kings Island Family Entertainment Center in Cincinnati and a manager of the King's Dominion Family Entertainment Center outside Richmond.
Josef Ebner, general manager of the Sheraton Grand Hotel on Capitol Hill, has announced five new appointments for the new 272-room, 15-floor hotel, which will open Dec. 28 at 525 New Jersey Ave. NW: Alain-Camille Binot, formerly chef for Domminique's Restaurant, will join the staff as executive chef. T. Michael McMahon, previously with the Sheraton Grande Hotel in Los Angeles, has been named director of housekeeping. Beatrice C. Lewis, who has been front office manager for the 250-room Sheraton Carlton Hotel on 16th and K streets NW, will become front office manager. Amy Whitehill, previously with the PGA Sheraton Resort in Florida, has been appointed systems manager. And Giovanni Santoro, formerly with the 1,505-room Sheraton Washington Hotel on Woodley Road NW, will be chief engineer of the Sheraton Grand.
In a separate announcement, Devon Hotels Ltd., a Sheraton Hotel franchisee, has appointed John G. King, formerly a senior instructor at Holiday Inn's management school, to general manager, and Susan Joseph, formerly sales manager, to director of marketing and sales of the Sheraton Hotel in New Carrollton.
Hilton Hotels Corp. has named David W. Giger, previously director of sales for the Capital Hilton, to director of sales for the 1,165-room Washington Hilton & Towers at 1919 Connecticut Ave. NW.
The 340-room Washington Plaza Hotel on Thomas Circle has appointed Robin S. MacGregor public relations director. For the last two years, she was director of administration for the International Association of Cooking Schools.
