United Technologies Corp.'s Sikorsky Aircraft division has appointed Gary F. Rast vice president in charge of government business development. Formerly vice president for government requirements with the Stamford, Conn.-based manufacturer, Rast will supervise all marketing activities with the federal government.
Mid-Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Inc. in Silver Spring has promoted John F. Flaherty to vice president in charge of its Washington division. Flaherty has been with the Coca-Cola franchise since its inception in 1980, most recently as general manager of its Alexandria sales center.
Black & Decker Manufacturing Co. in Baltimore has nominated Lawrence R. Pugh to its board of directors. Pugh, chairman and chief executive officer of VF Corp., a clothing manufacturer based in Reading, Pa., will stand for election at the company's annual meeting on Jan. 28.
Starnet Corp., a division of Ford Aerospace & Communications Corp., has added the following representatives to its Washington sales staff: Susan Lynham, John McCarthy, Linda Gagliardi and Mary Anna Johnson.
Twelve high school juniors and seniors from Fairfax and Loudoun counties have been selected by Fairchild Industries Inc. to serve on its junior board of directors. They are: Jeffrey Aven of Thomas Jefferson High School in Alexandria; Barbara Brown and Christina Markus of Loudoun County High School in Leesburg; Catherine Grosso of Loudoun Valley High School in Purcellville; Jeffrey Hamilton, Mary Beth Mensch and Phillip Wherry of West Springfield High School; Kevin Harrison of Robinson Secondary High School in Fairfax; Douglas Kornreich of Herndon High School; Kenneth Malley of Langley High School in McLean; Karen Lynne Reilly of Chantilly High School, and Andrew Watts of Mt. Vernon High School in Alexandria. Two alternates also were selected: Jill Lewis of George Marshall High School in Vienna and Melanie Casey of Loudoun County High School. Under Fairchild's four-month program, the students will attend weekly sessions to learn about the functions and activities of a corporation. They also will meet with Fairchild's board of directors and chairman, Edward G. Uhl. After these sessions, the junior directors will prepare a strategic plan that spells out what they think Fairchild should be doing in the future.
