Donald J. Gonzales, a White House and diplomatic correspondent with United Press International for 19 years, was recently elected a director of First Virginia Banks Inc. A resident of Williamsburg, Gonzales is president of Gonzales Consulting Associates and a former senior vice president for Colonial Williamsburg. The Falls Church-based bank holding company also announced the promotion of Andrew J. Ponton to senior vice president in charge of income property for its subsidiary, Arlington Mortgage Co. He was formerly vice president.

Ferris & Co. Inc., the Washington stock brokerage firm, has named Dudley M. Patteson senior vice president. Dudley was vice president in charge of corporate finance, and supervised the expansion of the firm's investment banking activities, the company said.

Security National Bank in Washington recently promoted David G. Fleming, Peter Holman and Raymond J. Andreno to senior vice presidents. Fleming will continue to manage the office of corporate relations, while Holman will head the bank's real estate operations. Andreno will supervise credit administration and lending.

Citizens Savings & Loan Association Inc. of Silver Spring announced several promotions at its recent annual meeting: John V. Romagna to executive vice president, from senior vice president; Carole J. Bobko to senior vice president, from vice president; Michael L. Derr to vice president, from assistant vice president; Anne W. Tuccinardi to corporate secretary and executive vice president; and Juline H. Anderson, V. Ann Blake, Betty L. Cutlip, Ann C. Finney, Charlotte P. Krintz, P. J. Lilly, Lawrence L. Luhn and Midge G. Radovich to assistant vice presidents.

Dominion Federal Savings & Loan Association has elected its executive vice president, David L. Erickson, to its board of directors. The association also recently promoted Timothy Bolger to senior vice president for secondary marketing and Janice Bean, Cindy Curtis, Julie Bradford, Cathy Pfister and Debra Evans to assistant vice presidents.

The newly formed First Independent Bank of Virginia has named two directors: Hoan D. Nguyen, executive vice president of Golden Pacific International Inc., and Randolph Shapiro, a partner in the accounting firm of Murray, Johnson, White and Associates.
