Betty H. Carroll has been elected president and chief administrative officer of Farmers and Merchants National Bank, becoming the first woman in the Winchester bank's 83-year history to hold the title. Carroll, who started with Farmers and Merchants in 1954, was elected to the bank's board last month. In addition, Jack Coffelt and Alfred R. Heishman Jr. were elected president and executive vice president, respectively, for the bank's Shenandoah County division.
Edward T. Wilson, formerly with Riggs National Bank, has joined Bank of America as director of its private banking office in Washington. Before becoming a banker, he was director for East-West trade for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
United Financial Banking Cos. Inc. said that James R. Sineath will organize a new office of The Business Bank in Fairfax City. Sineath was the founding president of both the Bank of Vienna and the New Wolftrap Independent Bank.
First Virginia Banks Inc. has promoted Jerry Y. Henderson to manager of the commercial loan department, filling the vacancy created by the promotion of Justin C. O'Donnell to president and chief executive officer. Henderson had been senior vice president and a manager in the bank's Tidewater branch.
