Sears, Roebuck and Co. has named W. Stanley Knipe, a 28-year veteran of the Chicago-based company, general manager for its 32 retail stores in the Washington, Baltimore and Tidewater, Va., areas. A former national customer relations manager and New Orleans area general manager, Knipe succeeds Charles J. Ruder, who has been appointed vice president for corporate public affairs at the company's headquarters.
MBI Business Centers Inc. has appointed Thomas M. Borger vice president in charge of sales for the computer retailer's five Maryland stores, one Washington store and a newly established Baltimore office handling major accounts. Borger was formerly a regional manager for the office systems group of Computer Consoles Inc. and held various marketing jobs with Xerox Corp. Additionally, the Rockville-based firm said that Cyrus A. Ansary, president of Investment Services International Co., a Washington firm that controls or has substantial investments in more than a dozen companies, has been elected to its board of directors. Ansary also is a director of First American Bank of Maryland, Washington Mutual Investors Fund, Growth Fund of Washington and a trustee of the American University.
Best Products Co. Inc. has elected Lucy Billingsley, president of the Dallas Market Center Co., a wholesale merchandise market, to the board of directors of this Richmond-based discount retailer, bringing membership to 13.
