The Centennial Development Corp. has announced an agreement to acquire the largest site planned for commercial development to date in Prince William County, Virginia.
The Vienna-based developer is purchasing a 514-acre site in Manassas from Marriott Corp., and is in the early stages of planning a corporate business park there.
The site, which is adjacent to the Manassas Battlefield Park near the intersection of I-66 and Route 29, was designated in 1982 as appropriate for a corporate park in an amendment to the county's master plan.
Other recent developments in commercial realty in the Washington metropolitan area:
*The Donohoe Construction Co. has broken ground on a new 125,000-square-foot, $16 million office building at 1212 New York Ave. NW.
The 12-story concrete-frame building was designed by the architectual firm of Keyes, Condon & Florance of Washington for the owner, the Hadid Investment Group of Arlington. The structure will be faced with marble and pre-cast concrete, and will include a three-level underground parking garage.
Construction financing will be provided by Chase Manhattan Bank. Completion is expected by next November.
*Smithy Braedon has announced the following leasing transactions: Maxima Corp., a computer cousulting firm, has leased 59,865 square feet at Executive Office Center, 2101 East Jefferson St., Rockville; RJO Enterprise Inc., a government contracting firm, has leased 37,624 square feet at Palmer Business Center, 4550 Forbes Blvd., Lanham.
*Barnes, Morris, & Pardoe Inc. has announced the following leasing transactions at 1818 N St. NW.: Diplomatic Duty Free Shop Ltd. has leased 2,245 square feet; Frantz & Knapp, a law firm, has leased 2,626 square feet; Paulson & Mace, a law firm, has leased 7,450 square feet; The National Council for the U.S.-China Trade has leased 12,500 square feet; Landfield, Becker & Green, a law firm, has leased 3,674 square feet; The National Association of Public TV Stations has leased 6,717 square feet. Finally, Stoppelman, Rosen, Eaton & DeMartino, a law firm, has leased 6,717 square feet. The total value of the above transactions is approximately $9 million.
*Michael Baker Engineers has signed a multiyear lease for approximately 18,000 square feet at 1420 King St., Alexandria, for $1.6 million, Cushman & Wakefield has announced.
