Commercial construction in Tysons Corner is booming, and yet another top Washington company, BDM International Inc., has announced plans to build its multimillion-dollar headquarters there.
According to West Group Associates, construction will begin this March on a 220,000-square-foot corporate headquarters in the West Park Office Complex, which BDM International Inc. plans to lease.
The building is designed by Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum, the architects of The Smithsonian Institution's Air and Space Museum and the Mobil Oil Co. headquarters.
It will feature office space, computer facilities, laboratories and a full-height atrium.
"Northern Virginia, and particularly this area of Tysons Corner/McLean, has proved to be one of the fastest growing high-technology centers in the nation," said Stanley E. Harrison, executive vice president of BDM International Inc. "And BDM International Inc. is growing along with it."
BDM is one of the area's largest professional and technical services company, and has grown from 300 employes in 1960 to more than 4,000 employes worldwide this year.
It will expand its current office space in the West Park Complex after the opening of its headquarters, scheduled for July 1987.
The West Park Office Complex presently includes more than 2 million square feet of office space in 17 buildings.
It also has 170 acres of land zoned for an additional 3.5 million square feet of office development and 1,000 residential units.
