The strong demand for private-sector executives in association management is continuing, according to a new survey by an executive search firm.
Hiring of senior executives by the nonprofit sector accounted for 9 percent of national senior hiring in the first quarter, according to the 61st National Index of Executive Vacancies, a quarterly report released by Korn/Ferry International.
"We are seeing more demand in 1987 for strong, experienced executives in positions just below the chief executive level among associations and professional societies," said Leonard Pfeiffer, a partner in Korn/Ferry's Washington office. "Boards of directors and chief executives are looking to upgrade their staffs in such areas as research, media relations and marketing."
Overall hiring activity rose 12 percent from the level of last year's first quarter, according to the survey. It found that the East Coast leads other regions of the country in demand for senior executives, representing 36 percent of the total demand. The index is based on a survey of 750 companies across the nation. TRADE
