Dart Drug Stores Inc., taken over last November by Sheldon W. Fantle, the former chairman of Peoples Drug Store Inc., has announced a new management lineup for the financially troubled 80-store chain.

Fantle, who heads Dart along with his son Jeffrey -- Dart's president and chief operating officer -- has turned to several former colleagues from Peoples:

Fred W. Edwards, formerly senior vice president of marketing for Peoples, will become Dart's senior executive vice president in charge of marketing, operations and distribution.

Louis M. Schecter, a merchandise buyer with Peoples who left the chain two years ago to become vice president in charge of drugstore sales for the food brokerage firm Chesapeake Randall Co., has been named senior vice president in charge of marketing at Dart, reporting to Edwards.

George Loney, who was vice president of finance for People's Lane drugstore division in Ohio, has been appointed Dart's chief financial officer.

Caroline Morse, who was Fantle's administrative assistant at Peoples, becomes vice president of administration.

The only holdover from Dart's previous management is a relative newcomer to the chain, Michael Lewis. Lewis joined Dart as senior vice president in charge of operations in September -- two months before Fantle took over the company with an $8 million investment. Before joining Dart, Lewis was vice president and general merchandise manager for Barrett Shoes, a division of Pic N Pay Stores Inc. Lewis, who will take the new title of vice president of operations, will oversee store operations.

The Fantles say Dart is now ready to proceed with its financial restructuring "to implement a unique and creative strategic plan" for the chain.
