Under Chapter 11 of the federal bankruptcy code, a company is protected from claims by creditors while it attempts to reorganize its finances under a plan approved by the court.
In a Chapter 7 liquidation, a court trustee sells assets to pay creditors' claims. The company then ceases operations.
District of Maryland
Heinz Refrigeration Inc., of P.O. Box 1030, Mechanicsville, filed for Chapter 7 liquidation May 31.
The company, which supplies and installs restaurant equipment, listed assets and liabilities as each being between $100,000 and $499,000.
CFM of Maryland Inc., doing business as Fresh Fare, Fresh Fare Markets and Service Center, of P.O. Box 966, Waldorf, filed for Chapter 7 liquidation May 31.
The firm, which owns, operates, leases and franchises retail food markets, listed assets of $650,000 and liabilities of $1,248,678.15.
The bankruptcy petition noted that La Plata Food Mart Inc. of Charles County, another CFM subsidiary, also filed for Chapter 7 liquidation.

John Vito Inc. of Prince George's County filed for Chapter 11 reorganization June 1; DBR Ltd. of Prince George's County filed for Chapter 7 liquidation June 6; Professional Car Care of Montgomery County filed for Chapter 7 liquidation June 5; and Whetstone Enterprises Inc. of Frederick County filed for Chapter 11 reorganization June 4. More information on the filings was not available.

OPLLS Contracting Inc. of 405 Glen Dr., No. 3-A, Sterling, filed for Chapter 11 reorganization June 6. The site and excavating contractor listed assets of $1,619,823 and liabilities of $1,534,968.
Corporate Images Inc. of 7351-D Lockport Place, Lorton, filed for Chapter 7 liquidation June 1. The printing service listed assets of $472,123.83 and liabilities of $651,325.61.
H&L Associates Inc., also known as Vintage Printing Center, of 7201 Lockport Place, Fairfax, filed for Chapter 7 liquidation June 1. The offset printing service listed assets of $27,725 and liabilities of $192,241.27.
