The Stock Market Game is a 10-week simulation of Wall Street trading that has become a popular teaching tool in classrooms for grades 4 through 12. Classes are divided into teams of three to five students who invest a hypothetical $100,000 in common stocks.

The classes can choose to play one of two versions of SMG Worldwide. The fax-trade version uses standardized sheets to record trades, commissions, and broker fees and is faxed to a state coordinator for compilation and ranking. The Internet version allows students to make all transactions using the Internet.

More than 100 area schools are playing the game through The Washington Post's Educational Services Department, and many other schools play it independently. Listed below are rankings of the game for Washington Post-sponsored schools and the top teams in state rankings.
