SafeNet Inc. plans to hire about 80 people through the end of the year. Tony Caputo, chief executive, talked with The Post's Andrea Caumont.
What does your company do?
We're a global information security company. We have a 20-year history of using our encryption technology to provide strong security to government customers, financial institutions and now to consumers. We make various technologies, including software, hardware and chips. We develop security technology and products to provide secure data transfer and communications, software anti-piracy solutions and personal identity authentication.
What do you think your employees would say were the best reasons for working at your company?
I think that they would have several reasons. The first is SafeNet is a growing company with new positions, so they have an opportunity to grow within their department or in a new department. Both stock options and employee stock ownership plans are offered. Every employee has an opportunity to be a shareholder. It's a big company but still has a small-company feel. It's also a challenging environment. Our employees are constantly learning and progressing in their job knowledge. Over our 20-year history people have been able to build pretty amazing relationships with their co-workers.
Who owns your company?
It's a public company and all of the employees have stock options and are free to participate in an employee stock ownership plan.
What sense of stability can your company offer job candidates?
I think the stability is quite high. We're a company that is growing very rapidly. This year we are 12 times the size we were in 2001. It's enormous growth and as a result there are new opportunities for employees all the time.
What are the demographics of your company?
We are 25 percent female and 7 to 10 percent minority company-wide. The average age of our employees is in the high 30s and their average time of employment with the company is four to five years.
What positions do you have available and what level of expertise do you want?
The SafeNet environment is built around open, honest communication. Employees need to be able to work in an environment where they are expected to communicate frequently and clearly and where they should expect to receive communication from their peers as well as their superiors. The environment is very fast-paced. People who are successful here are people who can adapt to change very well and very quickly. We have about 80 positions available in a variety of areas, including marketing, engineering, sales, finance, operations, human resources, administration and corporate communications. We're looking for all levels of experience. About a third of the positions are in our engineering department.
