Zolon Tech plans to hire about 20 people in the next three months. Ram Mattapalli, president and founder, and Ken Williams, director of business development, talked with The Post's Andrea Caumont.

What does your company do?

Zolon provides technology consulting and software development services to Global 2000 clients and federal and state government agencies. We specialize in building technology solutions for complex business problems utilizing RUP [Rational Unified Process] and PMBOK [Project Management Book of Knowledge] methodologies. The technology solutions and services we provide are in the areas of business intelligence, identity/access management, applications management and ERP [Enterprise Resource Planning] systems like Oracle, SAP and Peoplesoft. We also provide staff augmentation to help fulfill gaps in technical expertise in other organizations.

What do you think your employees would say were the best reasons for working at your company?

One key thing is we work in a very high-tech area, a niche area, and our employees are constantly learning and progressing in their job knowledge. We are a growing company and we do a lot of training and education. The company also pays 100 percent for medical and dental benefits, and that's huge. We try to make sure our customers have good technology on their side.

Who owns your company?

Myself, Ram Mattapalli, I own the majority and there's one other partner. The company is privately held.

What sense of stability can your company offer job candidates?

We have a very good client base. We are getting a lot of federal contracts and that gives us a lot of stability. We've been around for six years and we were recently certified by the Small Business Administration as a small business with 8A certification. Consequently, we've become more recognized in the federal market.

What are the demographics of your company?

Company-wide, we are 35 percent minority and 15 percent female. Within the six-person management team, we are 60 percent minority and there are no females.

What positions do you have available and what level of expertise do you want?

We're looking for four business objects consultants, five Oracle 11i functional consultants, seven C++/Java developers, four Software QA consultants and two Netegrity consultants. All applicants should have four to eight years of relevant industry experience. We look for individuals who are well-rounded in terms of their technical, functional, management and communication capabilities.
