Cigital Inc. plans to hire about 10 people in the next two months. Sandy Miller, vice president of human resources, and Charles Maglione, director of business development, talked with The Post's Andrea Caumont.

QWhat does your company do?

AWe're a highly specialized software consultant firm focused on software quality, software security and software process improvement solutions. Cigital helps commercial and government clients assure the quality and security of the software that they develop or that they integrate into their business. Our goal with our clients is to drive down the costs of producing quality software while insuring the reliability, security and performance of the application.

What do you think your employees would say are the best reasons for working at your company?

It's the people. We actually employ experts in the field. The people that we have at Cigital like working with other bright people who are known professionally for being experts in the industry.

Who owns your company?

The company is privately held. We have done two rounds of venture funding with venture capital firms, including Mid-Atlantic Venture Funds, Blue Water Capital and the Washington Dinner Club. Our founders are Jeff Payne and Jeff Voas.

What sense of stability can your company offer job candidates?

We offer an excellent benefit program, and we have a lot of people who have been here for a long time. The chief executive, Jeff Payne, understands the value of getting and keeping good people. The additional rounds of funding add to the stability as well. We also have several large, longstanding commercial and federal clients.

What are the demographics of your company?

Companywide we are 15 percent female and 30 percent minority. Within the senior management team we are 33 percent female, and there are no minorities.

What positions do you have available, and what level of expertise do you want?

We're looking for a senior research scientist with a background in software assurance and experience presenting at conferences. A PhD in computer science or a related field is required. We also need a software engineering lead with experience with software architecture and design, scoping development projects, developing and managing schedules, C++, Java, Linux/Unix and development tools. We're also looking for three reliability consultants (or senior reliability consultants) with three to five years of experience in software implementation. We're hiring four software security consultants (or senior software security consultants) with three to five years of experience in software development, security engineering and security consulting. We're also hiring one or two process improvement consultants (or senior process improvement consultants) with three to five years of general business experience. Finally, we're looking for a program manager with 15 years or more of experience managing, directing and implementing IT projects in the government arena and a strong understanding of software development and software security. All senior positions require more than six years of experience.
