National Endowment for Democracy claimed the last available space in the building once occupied by the Woodward & Lothrop department store at 1025 F St. NW. The nonprofit group will occupy the eighth floor of the building, with 50,000 square feet of space. CRESA Partners principal Gene Sachs brokered the deal.
CreateHope, a company that provides Web-based methods for companies and their employees to make contributions to charities, is moving from Bethesda to 2201 Wisconsin Ave. NW in the District. The company's move was prompted in part by funding from DC Capco, a new venture fund that encourages companies to locate in the District and hire residents.
200 Monroe LLC and Building Exchange paid $7.4 million, or $39.02 per square foot, for the former VonHoffman Printing warehouse at 200 Monroe St. in Frederick. The investors who bought the 189,000-square-foot vacant building did not indicate plans for it. Richard Gersten of Gersten Commercial Real Estate represented the seller and Bob Filley of Transwestern Real Estate Services represented the buyer.
Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland in College Park is initiating full and partial tuition scholarships to its executive MBA program. The school said in a statement that the merit-based scholarships are aimed at helping executives from "underrepresented industry areas -- including the government and non-profit sectors."
Sunrise Senior Living of McLean said it would receive more than $80 million in buyout fees from Five Star Quality Care, which is canceling contracts under which Sunrise managed 12 senior communities.
