US Airways, America West Unions to Join

Unions representing customer service agents at America West Airlines and US Airways Group plan to organize as a single entity with joint operations after the carriers merge. The proposal will go before the Communications Workers of America's 6,000 reservation, ticket and gate agents at America West, and 3,500 US Airways workers represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the unions said. Shareholders are scheduled to vote on the airlines' proposed merger today.

NOAA Moving Offices to Riverdale Park

The General Services Administration signed a lease for almost 270,000 square feet of office space in Riverdale Park for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The developer, District-based Opus East, said it expects to spend $70 million to build the facility, which will house 800 employees, and a parking garage. The building will comply with new federal security requirements.

Stifel to Acquire Legg Mason Unit

St. Louis-based Stifel Financial said it will acquire the capital markets business of Baltimore-based brokerage Legg Mason from Citigroup, less than three months after Citigroup acquired the business from Legg Mason in an asset swap.

XM Buys NHL Broadcast Rights

XM Satellite Radio will pay $100 million to broadcast National Hockey League games for 10 years. XM, based in the District, will create a channel featuring games and shows related to hockey beginning next month.
