Criimi Mae of Rockville, a real estate investment trust that deals in commercial mortgages, set a shareholders meeting to vote on sale of the company for Jan. 18 in New York. Criimi Mae has agreed to be purchased for about $328 million by a subsidiary of the Canadian company Caisse de Depot et Placement du Quebec.

Christopher Hoehn-Saric, chairman and chief executive of Educate of Baltimore, was named one of 11 national winners of the Ernst & Young entrepreneur of the year awards. Educate operates tutoring programs including Sylvan Learning Systems.

Avalon Consulting LLC of Dallas, a provider of customized Web content and e-learning, opened a District office to expand into additional markets.

Input of Reston, which provides research on government markets to business, formed a new high-level consulting group. It said the group includes Stephen C. Benowitz, a former associate director of the Office of Personnel Management; William S. Carrier III, former vice president of business development and strategic planning at Northrop Grumman Information Technology; L. Kenneth Johnson, who was president of U.S. operations at CACI International; and Carlos Solari, a former chief information officer for the Executive Office of the President.

Allied Bankshares of Chantilly said its Alliance Bank completed acquisition of the Danaher Insurance Agency of Annandale for about $3.2 million in cash.

Ipix of Reston, which provides 360-degree surveillance video, is cutting 15 more staff positions as it attempts to stem losses. In August, the company cut 27 of the 60 employees it had.
