So by now, everyone's read the stories about what a bust all these high-dollar millennium events are, and are wondering if they shouldn't just spend the night of Dec. 31 at home with their sweetie, in front of a fire, watching Dick Clark on TV. Oh, come on! How many times does the odometer roll over to three zeros? The advent of the year 2000 is supposed to make you ponder bigger issues, like what it means to be living in these remarkable times, like love for your fellow humans! Don't you want to be out among the masses, deliriously toasting each other at the stroke of midnight? Sure you do.

And if you don't know where you want to be, the obvious recommendation is to go somewhere you already like to go. You've got a favorite club, right? A favorite bartender. A favorite band.
